Joanna Cherry: ‘I’ve been proved right on Nicola Sturgeon’
Kevin McKenna’s colour piece from the suburbs of Edinburgh South West has not left our top performing story list since it was published on Monday. McKenna spent time door knocking with SNP candidate Joanna Cherry as she sought votes in leafy Currie, talking candidly about her relationship with the former First Minister, and much more.
Who won the STV leaders’ debate?
Andrew Learmonth dissected the first leaders’ debate, ahead of the knock-out between Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer the following day. ‘Four men in suits’ and ‘none of them up for election’ knocked the stuffing out of each other. No sign of the Greens and Alba however. But do these debates actually make any difference to the election result? Learmonth took a look.
Douglas Ross announces surprise bid to stand at General Election
A hastily organised press conference on Thursday morning saw Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross throw his hat in the ring for Westminster, declaring himself the candidate for Aberdeenshire North and Moray East. But not before the party had removed former the Scottish Office minister, and current MP David Duguid, from the race stating ill-health. Duguid wanted to contest the seat, and insisted he was fit to stand, but was told no by Tory management. Cue a division in the party's support and an opportunity for the opposition to attack on the topic of ‘shame’. One of the biggest talkers – and best-read package of stories – this week.

Keir stripping ethnic female politicians of their dignity is shameless
Dani Garavelli took Keir Starmer to town in her column on Sunday for Labour’s treatment of Diane Abbott. Just one of our General Election opinion pieces to have resonated with readers. “If the so-called workers’ party can treat its own with such contempt, can it be trusted with the welfare of the rest of us?” asked Garavelli. Also proving popular with readers this week was Neil McKay’s attack on the SNP’s record in government and where that has left the fight for Scottish independence.
