This boxer from the wild wild west first pulled on his gloves at the age of 15 and just six years later was winning a bronze medal at the Olympic games.

An operation at the age of four to correct his bowed legs, gave him his famous nickname.

A professional career spanning 45 fights yielded the British and European middleweight titles while his amateur record was astonishing, winning 103 of his 109 boughts, recording 51 knockouts in the process.
