Murray a credit to Scotland

That was such a sad letter from R J Stewart in Tuesday's Fans with Laptops; Andy Murray is a credit to Scotland and good luck to the boy in progressing his tennis career at Wimbledon next week.

Perhaps Andy should have summoned up "tough" RJS to replace him at Queen's Club - facing Andy Roddick's power serving using only four fingers of his racket hand.

Conspiracy theories start early this season

If Lex Gold had announced prior to the fixtures being released that one team out of 12 would have to face three away games in their opening four fixtures, it wouldn't have taken much thought to work out who that would be.

After the anti-Rangers stance taken last season, would it not be best for the SPL just to admit they want to make things as tough for Rangers as possible?

Gordon Barclay, via email

It is only mid-June and already the Rangers fans are complaining about fixture congestion, or something.

I know the solution. Cancel all the Whingers away games next season and award them three points, bringing to an end this unedifying spectacle. That way, they may have a chance of winning the league.

Rab Spence, Skye

The Rangers Supporters' Trust do not speak for me or any of my Rangers-supporting friends. We have three away games on the bounce - so what? We are Rangers.

Croatia a model for Scotland to follow

Having watched the success of Croatia (population 4.5m) at Euro 2008, in contrast to Italy and France, it seems that Scotland's inability to qualify for the finals could be judged merely as a failure, rather than a glorious failure, as previously noted.

Hopefully, George Burley will take us beyond our historical role as nearly men. With the squad we have and the spirit shown, it has to be possible. With the success of nations such as Denmark, Greece and Croatia there can be no excuses.

Kevin Cordell, Broughty Ferry

Once again I sit back with a terrible sense of deja vu.

An Italian team start a major tournament badly, each game getting a little better. Watch out Holland.
