K P Colville (Fans with Laptops May 28), may or may not have a point on the Old Firm's raid of provincial sides but his research on the subject needs questioning.
Yes, two teams dominate Scottish football.
However, Lyon have won the French title for the last seven years while, in Portugal, only once in the last 60 years has one of Porto, Sporting or Benfica not won the title. In larger, "more competitive"
European leagues the situation is no better.
Since 1981, five teams have won La Liga; since 1992 four teams have won Serie A; and, let's not forget, the Barclays Premier League where only three teams have won the title since 1995. These leagues have twice as many teams as the SPL but fail to produce twice as many winners.

Congestion has been going on for 100 years
Fixture congestion is nothing new. Celtic clinched the 1908-09 title (the fifth in succession in the six-in-a row series) by finishing one point above runners-up Dundee.
Celtic completed their league programme by playing their final eight games over twelve days, from 19 April to 30 April.
This included back-to-back home fixtures and the final three games (like Rangers this season, all away) on consecutive days. Eight games over 12 days is on average, a game every 36 hours.

Smith must prioritise games next season
With the domestic treble virtually impossible nowadays - the quadruple not even worth dreaming about - Walter Smith must prioritise games next season, ignoring fans' unrealistic expectations which pressure him into playing his strongest side in every competition. The priorities must be the league then Europe.
