Should Rangers, as now looks likely, miss out on the SPL title on goal difference, I can't help but think it would serve them - or rather, Walter Smith - right.
The Ibrox manager has had at his disposal Kris Boyd, the best goalscorer in Scotland, but has opted instead for Jean-Claude Darcheville, who has yet to play a full 90 minutes, or Daniel Cousin, who would have gone to Fulham months ago had UEFA not blocked the move.
Smith even had a partnership in Boyd and Steven Naismith which scored goals aplenty at Kilmarnock, but has been too defensive in his approach to give them a chance.
As a Scotland fan, and with the World Cup campaign beginning early next season, I hope Boyd gets a summer move to a club managed by someone who appreciates his natural talent.

Time for Hughes to give
it a rest - and move on
AS a Falkirk fan, I am fed up hearing and reading about John Hughes talking a lot of nonsense to try to disguise his own shortcomings. In recent weeks, he has blamed poor performances on referees, the SFA, the Falkirk Stadium playing surface, rugby, and now a lack of character in his players, but never his own bizarre team selections, tactics or substitutions.
He claims "we're punching above our weight", but there is no doubt that this season the club passed up a glorious chance to challenge for a European place.
After all, last season Falkirk finished eight points above Dundee United and 12 clear of Motherwell. Crucially, however, both those clubs have been under talented managers having their first full season in the job. Falkirk, meanwhile, have had someone who is in his fifth season and long past his sell-by date.

Season should not have to be a marathon affair
WHY can't Scotland get its act together in terms of the timing of the football season?
The English Premier League started later than the SPL, but they are done and dusted - apart, of course, from their two teams who reached the big European final - while we are still struggling on.
We should follow their calendar, to give us a decent summer break if nothing else.
