Time for new league after Gretna's demise
I was fascinated to read
that there are quite a number of clubs queueing up to fill Gretna's shoes should they
go under. Perhaps, now may be the time to consider
introducing a national league similar to that of the highly successful Nationwide League in England. Run under the auspices of the Scottish FA, it would provide automatic qualification to the third division from below and more importantly it would provide a league for the bottom club to drop into.
The three regional leagues could merge into two and the bottom club(s) in the new league could revert to the regional league from whence they originated.
The impetus for the current third division clubs to improve their standards would ensure that the poor sods who regularly wend their way to Cliftonhill or Firs Park would see their favourites have to play their way out of the comfort zone they presently operate within.

Taylor overstepping mark with United threats
I read with some dismay that David Taylor of UEFA has threatened Dundee United with sanctions should they attempt to raise any form of court action in relation to the actions of referee Mike McCurry after the incident at Ibrox recently.
I find this really sinister and an attempt to prevent a company from seeking recourse to justice. Mr Taylor now is employed in Europe and must be aware of human rights legislation which would forbid any such action.
Further, any threat such as this from Mr Taylor to prevent any attempt to have this matter tested in court may be viewed as a contempt or an attempt to pervert the course of justice. This is quite serious and sinister and dangerous precedents will be set if this threat is allowed to go unchallenged.

Gretna decision needed
SO another Scottish summer threatens to be shrouded in confusion due to Gretna's demise or otherwise.
Surely a decision has to be made one way or another to allow Airdrie, Stranraer or any other club promoted into the senior set-up a chance to prepare properly?
