Club must ban idiots who marred UEFA Cup final
As a Rangers supporter of some 40 years standing,
I wish to record in your pages my total disgust on hearing the news that there had been trouble in Manchester city centre while the Rangers team were battling to bring home the UEFA Cup to Scotland.
It is deeply regrettable that all the commendable work undertaken by the thousands of decent Rangers supporters - who have followed their team with distinction during this epic European campaign to restore the club's supporters' disciplinary reputation in the eyes of UEFA before a global audience - has been undone by a moronic handful of idiots.
While it was unfortunate that the large screen in Piccadily Square failed, there was absolutely no excuse for the loutish violence which then ensued. I sincerely hope that the club takes prompt and decisive action and bans these people from ever following the club again either at home or abroad.

Success can be bought
Rangers' failure to win the UEFA Cup proves that bravery alone is not enough and that success can be bought. Dick Advocaat has obviously spent more wisely than he did at Rangers while Walter Smith has been forced to cobble a team together largely as a result of the Advocaat big-spending legacy.
Some of the current Rangers squad are not and never will be capable of operating at European level and only an injection of funds in the summer will provide any hope of future glory.
It would be great to see a Rangers team which can keep possession and have a go at defences instead of passing the ball aimlessly across the park or back to the goalkeeper.

Governing bodies at fault
The SPL and SFA should be ashamed of themselves after their treatment of Rangers and should have done more to assist them in their effort to bring the UEFA Cup back to Scotland.
I'm not a Rangers fan, but feel let down by sports governing bodies yet again (remember the demise of Border Reivers?) With their over-inflated wage packets and egos they should think hard before they kill Scottish football off for good.
