Whilst I agree with Robert McGonigle (Fans with Laptops, June 5) in praising John Boyle's rebuttal of Rangers' approach for Mark Reynolds, even he recognises the futility of such resistance when he states that Reynolds is not currently Ibrox bound.
The FIA were quite right to keep Max Mosley as president despite his involvement in a so-called sex scandal'. What a person does in his or her private life is nobody else's business, regardless of how high their public profile is. Mosley has enemies in the sport and he may not always do and say things I agree with, but I would have been very uneasy if he had been sacked or voted out of his position by opponents with their own agendas.
Taking into account that Gretna are no longer in
existence', according to administrators, what is
taking the Scottish Football League so long expelling the club from all competitions?
ACCORDING to former Rangers players such as Mark Hateley and Derek Johnstone, Rangers will be targeting so-called flair' players in the current transfer window. So are flair' players such as Kenny Miller really going to be much of an improvement on what is already there?
MAY I respectfully suggest that RJ Stewart (Fans With Laptops May 29) himself needs to do some research on the meaning of the word "provincial" he uses in his letter about the Old Firm raiding players from such sides.
K P Colville (Fans with Laptops May 28), may or may not have a point on the Old Firm's raid of provincial sides but his research on the subject needs questioning.
Recently, it has been claimed
that the domination of Federer and Nadal in world tennis is ruining the sport. We, of course, have a similar problem in Scotland
where the third team in the
Premier League finishes
20-30 points adrift behind
the Old Firm year after year.
Badly behaved Chelsea deserved to lose final
Some may think Chelsea were unlucky to lose the Champions League final the way they did in Moscow, but in my view they deserved what they got. Their players spent the whole match falling over and feigning injury after every tackle, and spent their time whingeing at the referee, often shouting in his face. They've been England's worst-behaved club for years.
Lack of goals is not Rangers' main problem
Reading Tom Wallace's letter (Fans with Laptops, May 21), I can't help but think some fans might be a little deluded as to Rangers' shortcomings in the goal difference stakes this season.
Should Rangers, as now looks likely, miss out on the SPL title on goal difference, I can't help but think it would serve them - or rather, Walter Smith - right.
Time for new league after Gretna's demise
I was fascinated to read
that there are quite a number of clubs queueing up to fill Gretna's shoes should they
go under. Perhaps, now may be the time to consider
introducing a national league similar to that of the highly successful Nationwide League in England. Run under the auspices of the Scottish FA, it would provide automatic qualification to the third division from below and more importantly it would provide a league for the bottom club to drop into.
Club must ban idiots who marred UEFA Cup final
As a Rangers supporter of some 40 years standing,
I wish to record in your pages my total disgust on hearing the news that there had been trouble in Manchester city centre while the Rangers team were battling to bring home the UEFA Cup to Scotland.
Mike McCurry advises us on the SFA's Whistleblower wesbite that he wasn't sure
if Noel Hunt was fouled by David Weir, but he didn't seek advice from his assistant.
LAST weekend we had further irrefutable evidence of the near epidemic of refereeing incompetence that is now regularly and materially distorting the outcomes of Scottish football matches.
Gordon Smith and George Burley have been vociferous in their thoughts on the current fixture congestion by making it clear how unfair it is on Rangers.
Fixture congestion: the debate rumbles on
Everyone knows the name of the dark force behind Rangers fixture problems. It is not Gretna, whose postponed game has long since been played.
Rangers not entirely faultless in fixture chaos
Recently, Walter Smith accused Peter Lawwell of being disingenuous, but the Rangers manager leaves himself wide open to similar accusations when he ventures into the arena of fixture
pile-up precedents and
match cancellations.
