Maciej Zurawski has was last night criticised for failing to tell American side Columbus Crew he would not be joining them.
The Polish striker had been expected to move from Celtic to Major League Soccer, but a last-minute offer on transfer deadline day from Greek club Larissa saw him stay in Europe instead.
However, Columbus are furious at Zurawski's decision - which they only found out through Celtic's website - because they were sure he was going to sign for them.
Mark McCullers, the Crew general manager, said: "We really don't know what happened. It's not like the agent came back to us and said make us a better offer.
"To not even get a call indicating that another offer had been made is very aggravating to me."
In contrast, Zurawski's fellow striker, Colin Nish, could not be happier after his move from Kilmarnock to Hibernian.
The 26-year-old grew up as a supporter of the Easter Road side and should fulfil a lifetime ambition by making his debut against Dundee United this weekend. He said: "I've been a Hibs fan all my life and, like any young boy growing up, I dreamed of playing for the club I supported.
"There's obviously terrific competition up front, with Steven Fletcher, Benji, Clayton Donaldson and Dean Shiels, so it will be difficult to get a game.
"But with the gaffer Mixu Paatelainen being a former striker, I believe that can only help me improve as a player. I had a chat with him and he just wants us to be successful and to play attractive football."
Nish played in Kilmarnock's win over Airdrie in the Scottish Cup last week and so was ineligible for the 0-0 draw with Rangers on Sunday. However, he hopes to help his new team-mates take that improved form into their league matches.
He said: "I know the boys have gone through a poor wee spell, but hopefully we can get back to winning ways and begin to push back up the table, into the top six and, hopefully, start challenging for a place in Europe again."
