Half Time at the City of Manchester Stadium. Rangers 0 Zenit 0 on the field. Scottish fans, however, outnumber Rangers by at least four to one. But here is the really important question? Who tought Zenit supporters the bouncy bouncy? And were the Russians really singing "We are the people," as at least a large part of the Rangers' support thought. A terrific, fantastic atmosphere. The Gers support were right behind their team, despite some very difficult moments in the first half.
Terrific, fantasic, atmosphere? You are talking about a violent mob that was intent on murder. How can Scottish teams be allowed into the competion next year if this is how there fans behave?

Is this journalism? A lightly veiled attack on the opposition's supporters and nothing on the barbarism that has made Scotland a 'hated' nation south of the border. This club and its supporters have long been Scotland's shame. Journalists need to point out the obvious - not behave like drunken fans. Where's your comments on the violent mob?

David Leask,
I asked for the deletion of your half time blog, and demanded an apology giving my reasons..
I again ask once more for deletion of this blog. It tells much about what the problem is in Scotland when this can be published in what was once a notable newspaper..
I thank my fellow online posters for noting that my comment was deleted other than David Leask quotes on the fantastic atmosphere..
Obviously he gives much away about himself and the moderator .
It shocks myself and others that a journalist seems ignorant of the meaning that these supporters give to this war dance..
Now was David Leask ignorant, and is that not a valid question?
Now as its David's blog he has the opportunity to delete the HT quotes or explain his reasons why not... I suggest he will have a hard job justifying himself...
I look forward to reading part 2 ... How will it read that is another question?. I shall have a guess that it will go something like this.
The city of Manchester had a fantastic and exciting atmosphere till the early hours of Thursday morn. etc. etc.
David you can always send me an e.mail justifying the wording in your blog. That would be more manly than deleting a post that brought errant ways to your attention.
I have retained your blog for further attention if necessary...

Deletion of post imminent... Still remains to be seen... No vile language ... no reason for deletion. I have Just given Mr David Leask an escape clause for his disgraceful blog...
It really is hard to fathom the stupidity involved in such wording..

David Leask suggests "A terrific, fantastic atmosphere" at the Uefa cup final. Clearly David didn't hear the Rangers fans sing "why don't you go home, the famine is over, why don't you go home" I'm of Scots-Irish extraction living in Glasgow and it pains me deeply that journalists ignore this xenophobia. Also, would you ignore it if it were "African slavery is over, why don't you go home"
Also in terms of subsequent events on 14th May 2008, I wouldn't suggest that xenophobia leads directly to football hooliganism, but it certainly attracts unsavoury elements in society. Maybe David could identify this rather than air brushing Rangers fans as "terrific" and "fantastic".
