Harrison set to fight on despite ban extension
JIM BLACKMay 15 2008

Scott Harrison is considering an appeal against the continued suspension which threatens to end his career.

The former world featherweight champion failed in his plea to the British Boxing Board of Control to have his licence reinstated at a hearing in Cardiff on Tuesday. The tribunal found the 30-year-old guilty of bringing boxing into disrepute and extended his ban until January 31 next year.

Harrison was also told that the ban will stand until he has completed the 200 hours community service sentence imposed in March after pleading guilty to resisting arrest and breach of the peace.

In a BBC statement, general secretary Simon Block warned they may take further action, depending on the outcome of court cases Harrison faces in Scotland and Spain. Harrison, who was arrested last month on suspicion of drink-driving, has still to stand trial in Spain over allegations of an attack in October 2006, for which he could be facing 11 years in jail if convicted.

Meanwhile, Kevin McIntyre, the British welterweight champion from Paisley, will defend his crown against Kell Brook at London's York Hall on June 14.
