SCOTT HARRISON'S fortunes contrasted with those of his fellow Scot Kevin McIntyre yesterday when the former world featherweight champion from Cambuslang was left in limbo over his comeback plans.
While McIntyre enthused over his forthcoming British welterweight title defence against Kevin Anderson at the Kelvin Hall on February 29, Harrison was told by the British Boxing Board of Control that he must wait until March 12 at the earliest before learning if his application to have his licence reinstated has been successful.
The BBBC decided at their monthly meeting in Cardiff to delay a decision pending the outcome of Harrison being sentenced on March 10 after admitting to a breach of the peace and resisting arrest when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last Monday.
Harrison, who has also been ordered to return to Spain for court proceedings following his arrest in 2006 on assault charges, had hoped to return to the ring at the end of March after an absence of 28 months. That now seems unlikely.
McIntyre, meanwhile, said he has enlisted the support of a powerful trade union ahead of his bid to prove that his unanimous points win over former champion Anderson last November was no fluke.
The Royal Mail's Communications Workers Union are sponsoring former postman McIntyre, allowing the 29-year-old from Paisley to concentrate solely on his boxing ambitions without having to worry about financial pressures.
