Colchester Utd 1 Kingstonian 0

This friendly clash on Saturday started early so it did not interfere with the Colchester Carnival on the same day. And the Second Division outfit were slow to get into their rhythm.

Indeed Ks could have been two up by half time. But after the break Colchester took the lead and shut up shop.

Keeper Jerome John needed lengthy medical treatment after bravely blocking a run by John Gregory. But he remained up to the challenge and did well to hold a vicious free kick from Aaron Skelton on 20 minutes.

Francis threaded a ball to Leworthy on 32 minutes, and his blocked shot ran loose to Dean Hooper, who rounded the keeper but just ran the ball out.

And in the dying minutes of the first half Colchester's keeper Carl Emberson got a boot to a Simon Botchenski drive.

Ks made nine half-time changes and were punished on 63 minutes when Tony Locke found himself unmarked on the right, raced into the area, rounded John and slotted home from an acute angle.

Chapple will be pleased by the form of 19 year old keeper Nick Webb. The 6ft 2in player, released from Luton, made some fine saves in the second half.
