A new housing development on the site of the former Cottage Hospital in Church Lane, Cheshunt, is set to be opened next Thursday.

The £1.85 million project was developed by Broxbourne Borough Council, which provided £420,000 in a social housing grant, in association with the Sanctuary Housing Association.

The development, called Cottage Gardens Development, consists of six one-bedroom flats, six two-bedroom flats, seven two-bedroom houses and seven three-bedroom houses, all of which have been allocated to local people on the councils housing register.

The authority has retained the right to nominate 100 per pent of future tenants to the site.

Chairman of the councils housing committee, Cllr Ken Holiday, said: The council has spent heavily, and is continuing to do so, on the provision of additional housing for local residents. Over the last two years a total of £2.2 million has been spent by the council which has resulted in the construction of properties to a value of £7 million.
