Youth football round-up

Hendon U13, under manager Steve Neville, will be going on a tour to Holland over Easter and they have entered the Coca-Cola Youth Cup, the largest event in Europe.

Their progress in the tournament is unlikely to be great, however, as they find themselves in the same mini-group as two of Europe's most famous clubs, Grasshoppers of Zurich and Feyenoord of Rotterdam.

Hendon U17 crashed out of the Harrow Youth League Cup at the

semi-final stage at Claremont Road on Sunday morning going down 5-2 to an over-physical Sudbury Court team.

In a disastrous opening Hendon quickly went four down, but despite some awful tackles they hit back with a Wayne Bryden header and an opportunist effort from Wayne Da Costa, but Sudbury sealed their victory after a late breakaway.

There was more cup woe for the U16s who went down 3-2 to St Andrews in the League Cup semi-final. Outfield player Jason Grace had to play in goal, and with Michael Crossley and Graeme Grossman forced off with injuries, the Dons were always going to be up against it.

After going a goal down Nathan Edwards equalised, but Saints had restored their lead by the break. Robert Mcsweeney lashed home Hendon's second equaliser, but Saints got the winner with five minutes left.

Hendon U14 just about clinched second place and promotion in their debut season with a superb 4-3 victory over Harrow Town.

Hendon went behind twice, but blasted back to go 4-2 ahead through Jermaine Watt (2), Jihan Reeves and Jude Eboji, Harrow getting a late consolation goal.

The U13s could not cope with the fierce competitiveness of

Sudbury Court and went down to a 7-3 defeat. Nathan Graham, Kevin

Knapper and George Kelly getting the goals. It was a mixed game for Kelly who came in for some rough treatment throughout and was hauled off by boss Steve Neville after retaliating.

Yinka hit all five goals for Princes Park U10s in their excellent 5-1 Supplementary Cup win over Reno Rovers, who had beaten them twice in the league.

The U11s became Division Two champions with a 4-1 win in their final league match. Mark Henry, Jimmy Simpson, Carl Martin and his brother Callum shared the goals.

Whetstone Wanderers U15s as ever competed well but eventually went down 3-0 to a skilful Kodak Aces Red team riding high in the West Herts League Division One.

Despite resolute defence and a fine performance from man-of-the-match Jay Hughes, the U13s lost 1-0 away to Evergreen Juniors in their West Herts League match.

Barnet Youth U14s blitzed Symonds Green with three second-half goals as they fired themselves into the Herts County Cup final.

Facing the wind, Barnet kept it tight, restricting their opponents to one real first-half chance, but Robert Steele made a spectacular headed clearance.

Then Barnet grabbed the game by the throat and Jacob Berry fired them ahead.

Guiseppe Basta nodded the second and Lee Adams sealed a fine team performance by adding the third to send Barnet into their first county cup final.

An all-Barnet Youth U13 league clash saw Black beat Amber 3-0 with goals from Lee Tombs, Robert Harris and Adam Conner.

Steve McEnteggart, Glen Skinner and Chris Williams scored two goals each, and David Pearce got the other as the U15s stormed to a 7-0 away win over East Barnet Youth.

Dollis Junior School, who face Whybridge Junior School, Rainham, in the final of the Black Cup London Schools' FA competition at Hornchurch FC tonight (Thursday), tuned up in fine style when a last-minute goal by Darryn Davis gave them a 2-1 win over St Josephs and a place in the final of the Martin Cup (Barnet West).
