THE Harlow 10 annual road race is one of the town's biggest and most successful sport events, this year attracting over 500 entrants. Notable amongst them was World Snooker Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, who also got the race underway.

London Irish's John Downs was the overall winner of the event, though he didn't achieve his stated aim of breaking the course record. His time of 51min 25sec was some three minutes short of the course record 49min 29sec, set in 1993.

The first lady home was Bedford Harriers' in a time of 1hr 02min 33sec.

n the junior side, Harlow Athletic Club's younger members produced some fine performances in the latest Eastern Young Athletes League meeting.

In the under-15 boys section, Aaron Beasley produced a hat-trick of wins in the field, winning the shot (9.20m), discus (19.81m) and javelin (20.85m).

In the under-13 boys section, Daniel Major ran well to gain third spot in the 'A' string 100m with 14.8sec while Damon Charles won the 'B' string in 15.4sec.

In the under-15 girls section, Natalie Bar gained third spots in the 'A' 100m (14.9sec) and 200m (30.9) along with a second in the 'B' shot (6.74).

Stephanie Fuller was also in good form, gaining second places in the 'A' discus (25.12m), shot (6.86m) and javelin (16.20m).

In the under-13 girls Alicia Loomes gained a hat-trick of third places in the discus (11.26m), 100m (17.5sec) and 200m.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Harlow's veteran sprinter Brian Bostock was in top form at the Easter Veterans League match at Southend. Competing in the over-50s 200m, he broke the league record to win in 25.3sec. He also won the 400m hurdles (1min 10sec) and came third in the javelin (30.33m).
