Blair Kinghorn: Named man of the match after a lively performance in which he was always trying to spark the attack into life. 8

Darcy Graham: Breathed life into home hopes with early second-half touchdown and always looked likely to cause France problems. 8

Huw Jones: Came on to a game after quiet start, regaining the cutting edge which makes him so dangerous. 7

Sione Tuipulotu: Less influential than usual as Scotland struggled before the break, then gave way to Cameron Redpath just before the hour mark. 6

Duhan van der Merwe: Always adventurous in possession and was one of the few home players to look in the mood right from the start. 7

Finn Russell: The captain had a good day with the boot, scoring ten points and also kicking well from hand. 7

Ben White: The squad’s clear first choice as scrum-half sustained a left-foot injury early on and limped off after half an hour. 6

Pierre Schoeman: Took his try well, creating space with half-dummy before forcing his way through the last of the French defence. 7

Ewan Ashman: Outshone by Dave Cherry, who came on for him in second half, but still looks likely to be in World Cup squad. 6

Zander Fagerson: Became the first player to be subjected to the new Bunker system when he was shown a yellow card for head contact at a ruck on Pierre Bougarit. 5

Richie Gray: Showed up well in the lineout at times, but like the rest of the home pack seemed far less dynamic than his opposite number. 7

Grant Gilchrist: Less prominent than Gray at set piece but contributed well in the loose on occasion. 6

Matt Fagerson: One of two survivors from last week’s starting line-up along with Graham, the Warriors back-row forward helped up the tempo in the second half. 7

Hamish Watson: Did some good work in defence as well as trying his best to open up some space with his carries. 7

Jack Dempsey: Carried well at times before being sacrificed once Scotland went down to 14 men. 6

Best of the rest

Dave Cherry: Scored the winning try and really put up his hand for World Cup selection. 7

George Horne: Got 50 minutes of action and played his part in the second-half recovery. 6

WP Nel: The veteran was invaluable late in the game as the Scots scrum held their own when France were pressing for the winning score. 7

Rory Darge: Late cameo included winning crucial penalty deep in own 22 in stoppage time. 7
