A RAPIST and pornographer from Deptford is facing a life sentence after the Old Bailey convicted him on two counts of rape, one of assault and one of false imprisonment.

Twenty-stone Raymond Genas began a reign of terror over his 21-year-old girlfriend in autumn 1999 when he thrashed her with a baseball bat in the bathroom of his flat.

Soon after he began to advertise the Lewisham woman as a prostitute through contact cards in local telephone boxes, the court heard.

Brendan Kelly, prosecuting, described to the jury the nature of the 36-year-old amateur boxer's cruelty.

He said: “He saw her as a marketable commodity and was willing to invest a little money to make sure she got the work.”

She made more than £300 a night in the heavyweight hustler's sordid enterprise, of which she was allowed to keep £30.

When, on New Year's Eve 1999, the woman accused giant Genas of having an affair, he dragged her into his flat and raped her.

The jury heard that on the following day he hurled her into his car and smashed her head on the dashboard and then punched her in the face.

When she told Genas she wanted to leave him, he threatened: “Then I will paralyse you from the neck down. You don't escape me.”

He later forced her and her housemate to star in a pornographic film.

She told the Old Bailey: “I did not think he could hurt a fly. But when that took place I started to see the real him. He was controlling my life.”

An additional charge against the pimp of the rape of a 14-year-old baby-sitter has been left on file as the jury was undecided.

Genas, 36, was imprisoned for three years in March 1993 following a brutal assault on a 16-year-old girl that left his boot print on her face.

He will be sentenced following the completion of psychiatric reports.
