‘I’m a lot healthier now. I feel better, mentally and physically’

Joe Malcomson turned his life around thanks to the charity Street League.

Two years ago the 25-year-old spent most his time hanging out with friends and going to youth clubs.

But with the help of Street League, which offers football training and competitive tournaments for unemployed youngsters across Glasgow, Joe is now on track for a sports coaching career.

He said: "I liked the idea of it. They talked about using football to provide some structure and help you get a job but, to be honest, at first it was all about the football. I just wanted to play football.

"But after regular training sessions and tournaments it was a real confidence boost. I'd always loved playing football and it was great to be part of something.

"The other big thing was my health and fitness. I'd never thought about this before and ate and drank whatever I wanted."

Joe, who is typical of the kind of young person who will benefit from Inspiring Scotland's investment, added: "One of the coaches encouraged us to eat better food and think about nutrition and told me I'd be a better footballer if I took these things seriously.

"I'm glad to say I took his advice and I'm a lot healthier now. I feel better for it, mentally and physically."
