Angela Cannings charity helps in salt case appeal
MARTIN WILLIAMSMarch 29 2007

A mother wrongly convicted of killing two of her babies is helping a Scot seeking to overturn a conviction of assault against a child.

Angela Cannings, originally from Salisbury, Wiltshire, who spent 18 months in prison before her life sentence was quashed, launched a foundation yesterday to support other families who have suffered miscarriages of justice.

The Angela Cannings Foundation was launched by the Justice for Families lobby group, which is calling on the government to reform the way medical experts are used in court and for greater openness in family court proceedings.

The foundation will back Susan Hamilton, 42, the Edinburgh mother who was acquitted of attempting to poison an eight-year-old girl with salt, but found guilty of assault to the endangerment of life by a majority verdict in 2003 and jailed for four years.

The jury heard that from May 1995, the girl was fed using a feeding tube into her stomach. The Crown said Hamilton used this to administer large doses of salt. The girl suffered permanent brain damage.

Hamilton is seeking to show that Domperidone, a drug which she says was prescribed to the child, could have caused the high salt levels.

Penny Mellor, who co-founded the foundation, said the group had found the appropriate experts for her and her appeal.

The foundation inauguration began with a minute's silence for Sally Clark, who was cleared by the Court of Appeal in 2003 of killing her two sons after spending three years in prison, but who died less than two weeks ago.

How can the the wider public learn than most of us, and our family and friends - well, anyone outside a power elite - is at risk of crucifiction by false allegations - eg by unhappy accident as in case of Sheila Bowler. An noteworthy, if unspoken premise in prosecution logic is that medical experts have complete knowledge and are impartial. These experts continue in the proud tradition of the primitive witch doctors and Matthew Hopkins of the 1640's.

I am writing after seeing the ch 4 june 9th prog about Susan Hamilton serving 4 years for salt poisoning a child who had been admitted to hospital 12x in the previous 5 years, the last admission being followed 2 weeks after by a suprising recovery.
While the bipolar form of depression is not something that is normaly associated with salt poisoning of children I wonder if anyone has concidered that lithium, the medication used to controll bipolar does it by controll of the sodium level, bipolar depression also has a seasonal relapse in springtime. would like to discuss this further with view to present alternative theory to explain high salt level where there is no scientific explaination.

The judges are the real villains as they approve the taking of newborn babies at birth for adoption by strangers from sane mothers that have never caused them harm
This is a crime against humanity .A burglar facing a possibility of 6 months or more in prison can demand a trial by jury.Any parent facing a possible life sentence if their child is removed for adoption or long term fostering should have the same right.
No jury would remove a child for "risk of emotional harm" or would punish parents not for anything they had done but for what some hired "expert" predicted they might do in the future!
Sack the rubberstamping establishment judges and replace them by juries whenever there is a possibility of adoption or long term fostering so that over zealous social workers would become powerless and the whole rotten family court edifice would crumble and fall!

The family court services and Social Services still continue to get things wrong. Having worked for Social Services and seen the things that are going on. Particularly in the Family court services.

There they make Decisions based on the information presented by Social Workers and their Managers, also Social Workers from CAFCAS, who are supposed to remain impartial to Social Services and act in the best interest to the child. They don’t even listen to the child’s view but work hand in hand with Social services to gain the Court decision in the Authorities favour.

This is I have seen and experienced first hand and also gained knowledge of information being manipulated and falsified to win an case to removed of even put up children for adoption. There is no accountability for any of these people and the law supports them in destroying families. All because of mistakes in the past, they are going over the top. The very good Social Workers and support staff are all leaving in droves (I wonder why?).

The whole system is corrupt draconian, and still in Victorian times and don’t understand the modern day family is no longer what it used to be (Mum Dad, Both working in middle class jobs with average well behaved 2 children).
