The Herald today provides a comprehensive guide to school performance both in print and online.

To determine our "league tables", we use the benchmark figures used by employers and universities – the percentage of pupils passing five or more Highers at grades A to C by the end of S5.

Simply click on the local authority headings below to see a tables of relative exam performance across Scotland.

It should be borne in mind that the figures released yesterday are likely to rise because schools have yet to see the results of their appeals.

As exam results are so often linked to the relative social make-up of the school, we also include data for the percentage of children on free school meals.

The government also publishes its own database of Scottish school exam results were published yesterday on the internet as part of a service for parents.

The data is made available annually by the Scottish Government on the Scottish Schools Online website and allows parents to compare the performance of individual state and independent schools.
