A PENSIONER who tried to stop three offenders from stealing a caravan in Rickmansworth was left injured after the thieves pushed him over.

At about 5.10pm on Wednesday, July 4, the three offenders drew up outside an address in Loudwater Lane in a black Montego, registration number F403 HKP, and used hydraulic equipment to remove a wheel clamp from the caravan.

They then hitched it to the back of the car and attempted to make off. The 84-year-old man chased the car down the driveway but the three occupants got out of the car and pushed him over causing him cuts and grazes on his legs and knees.

A short while later the thieves were seen abandoning the caravan and the car in Park Avenue, Chorleywood, leaving behind their small terrier dog which is being cared for by council animal wardens.

The caravan was returned to its owner, who had parked it at the elderly man's address temporarily, and checks are continuing on the car.

Police want to hear from anyone with information about the offenders or who may have seen them on that day. The man who pushed over the elderly gentleman is described as white, aged 30 to 39, of big build and about 5ft 8ins tall with close cropped hair.

Witnesses should contact PC Nicholas Lillitou on 01923 472029 or the Crime Desk on 01923 472000.
