Glasgow's sole Tory councillor has quit his second committee in a week, claiming he jumped before being pushed.
David Meikle resigned from the licensing board after public statements he made on the body's clampdown on a free Guinness promotion on St Patrick's Day, claiming it had its priorities wrong and that it had "gone over the top".
Last week, the Pollokshields councillor quit the planning committee following the decision to give the go-ahead to the controversial Go Ape assault course in Pollok Park.
The resignation from planning cost him the several thousand pounds he would receive on top of his basic £15,000. He was not remunerated for his licensing board role.
His comments on the licensing board's stance on the free promotion led to criticisms by the Scottish Licensed Trade Association (SLTA).
Mr Meikle said that with the licensing board soon to meet three times a week to process applications under the incoming new liquor laws, he had considered quitting but decided to go after seeing the SLTA complaint.
He said: "I stand by my comments but felt that with the complaint in the background it was time to go."
