2: Curb late night licences

I fully support the views of K Pope, in the Guardian issue June 28, that our once delightful and friendly borough, is fast becoming besieged in crime.

The problem is largely through inexperienced councillors, together with our blind magistrates, in continuing to grant late night licences to the ever growing number of pubs and night spots in the borough, and being fully aware of the disgraceful behaviour, drunken thugs, violence and crime these badly run establishments create through our borough.

Our local authorities must also be aware of the decreasing numbers of our gallant and splendid police officers to deal effectively with this.

The time has come for our borough to again be managed by fully responsible and experienced councillors and magistrates, to resur- rect a Croydon all we residents can be proud of again, and these disgraceful drinking dens be closed down for ever.
