Tabard 47 Redruth 13

Jewsons National League 2 South

Alistair Metcalfe returned on Saturday and had an inspirational game as Tabard again dominated up front and this time the pressure was converted into points to beat Redruth.

From the kick off Metcalfe showed his class as he was everywhere, recycling the ball and setting up attack after attack.

Although Tabard pressurised their opponents it was ten minutes before the first score came. From a line out take by second row Dick Malone, the Tabard forwards drove and hooker Mark Sharp touched down for the try.

Redruth then found some form and were rewarded with a penalty converted by their stand off.

Forward pressure, again, led to Tabard's next try. This time the ball was fed out and centre Andy Pinnock carved through the defence to score under the posts, giving stand off Nick Churchman an easy conversion.

Fullback Giles Hewson scored the next, the ball coming down the line after it was efficiently recycled following a short penalty.

Churchman added the conversion but a further Redruth penalty meant that Tabard were 19 points to six ahead at half-time. A superb break by Pinnock set up wing Jamie Dickinson for a great try five minutes into the second half which Churchman converted.

The pressure on Redruth now began to take its toll and when Ian McMullan made a break down the wing, Redruth's defence was in a mess, allowing him to score under the posts for Churchman to convert yet again.

Hewson picked up his second try of the afternoon, coming into the line and creating space, with Churchman converting, before a momentary lapse by Tabard let the Redruth flanker through for a try which was converted.

In reply, Tabard's scrum half Simon Andrews, made a half break which was continued by Dickinson and centre Barney Larkin, before Andrews took the return pass to score for Churchman to complete a fine afternoon with another conversion.

Next week Tabard travel to Esher in the next round of the Tetley Bitter Cup.
