The Borehamwood branch of the British Red Cross has a brand new baby thanks to mobile phone company One 2 One.

The Resusci Boy child mannequin, which is used for resuscitation demonstrations, arrived just in time for the start of the next first aid course beginning this month.

The group, based at the Shenley Road Health Centre, runs training courses for new mothers and nursery group leaders. And up until now it has not had sufficient equipment to practice child resuscitation techniques on.

But One 2 One, based in Maxwell Road, Borehamwood, felt the local charity was a worthwhile cause to support and paid for the mannequin out of its community support fund.

Peter Cowley, a member of the British Red Cross, said: "With mannequins costing between £500 and £1,000 each this was an expensive item that we just couldn't afford. Now we hope to be able to teach many local people about resuscitation in case they are ever faced with such an emergency.

"I am really pleased that One 2 One has supported this cause -- it was great to be able to go back to the centre and tell them of our imminent arrival!"

The next first aid course begins at the centre on Thursday September 24 at 7.30pm. For further details or to book a place telephone 0181 207 3698.
