Police are on the the hunt for thieves who have been targetting BT phone boxes in Borehamwood for coins. Two would-be raiders were spotted trying to force open unsuccessfully the coin box at a kiosk on Gateshead Road, on August 17 at 10pm.
The duo were white, male, 5ft 9ins tall. One had short black hair and was wearing a grey sweatshirt. His partner spoke with an Irish accent. But thieves found a profitable target when they fled with an unknown amount of cash from a call box at the junction of Gateshead Road and Aycliffe Road on Monday at 12.30am. An alarm call by BT alerted police who believe the thieves drilled their way into the kiosk's coin box.
