Campaigners calling for the release of two young guardsmen serving a life sentence for murdering a local youth in Northern Ireland took to the streets of Twickenham on Saturday.
They set up stall with petitions for shoppers to sign and Twickenham MP Vincent Cable made an appearance to demonstrate his support.
Elaine Mitchell, of Princes Road, Teddington, said she joined the campaign to free the two Scots Guardsmen, Jim Fisher and Mark Wright, because her son joined the army and she was worried about the complex situation facing armed forces.
"I feel our soldiers must be receiving mixed messages when trying to promote peace. When given an order do they have to consider whether carrying out that order will result in a prison sentence?"
Veteran commentator Ludovic Kennedy has demanded a retrial for the two Scots Guardsmen.
