Thousands of pounds worth of recovered stolen property was returned to its rightful owners at the weekend as the Operation Bumblebee roadshow rolled into town.

More than two thousand people swarmed into Fairfield Halls on Friday and Saturday hoping to be reunited with their stolen goods during the latest Met police treasure trove.

And the veritable Aladdin's cave of items, which included valuable furniture, jewellery and paintings, as well as goods offering more sentimental value, saw a whole host of goodies finding their true home.

Operation Bumblebee crime prevention co-ordinator Sgt Geoff Bishop told the Guardian: "It was a hugely successful two days and it's brilliant that so many people attended - particularly as we are in the middle of a peak time holiday period.

"It was great to see so many people reunited with their property.

"One woman came all the way from East Sussex and managed to pick out her property straight away."

At least 21 people who went along to the roadshow identified property, worth in excess of £10,000.
