A variety of music was played to a picnicking audience by Borehamwood Brass at the weekend.

The rain held off and although the evening was little breezy, Saturday's open air concert in the Walled Garden of Shenley Park was declared a success. Secretary of the band, Gladys Rice said: "It was a new venture for us and we weren't sure how well it would go down. We could have done with a few more bums on seats but we were generally pleased with the event and will definitely be doing it again."

Around 60 people, mainly families, attended the concert and were treated to music by the band. Many brought picnics and sat on rugs and deck chairs. The band will not be putting on a concert in the garden again this year, as they are busy practising for a trip to Germany.

However, most members of the audience agreed that it was a lovely way to spend an evening and that it should be organised again.

Borehamwood Brass welcomes new members, particularly younger players. They meet on Wednesday and Friday evenings at Holy Cross Church, Balmoral Drive in Borehamwood. Anyone interested in joining should telephone Mrs Rice on 01923 857643.
