The Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise (HACAN) has compared the borough to war-torn Sarjevo.

In a new 124-page document it states night flights can drive residents to the "edge of madness".

HACAN is accusing the government of a policy of "Systematic Sleep Deprivation For the People of London".

The new document includes letters by people whose lives have been made a misery by night flights.

HACAN chairman, Dermot Cox, said: "The health and wellbeing of a million London residents is being systematically harmed by the policy of permitting night flights.

HACAN hopes that by exposing the governments contemptuous betrayal of its duty to protect ordinary people, public anger will force the abolition of night flights."
