Epsom and Ewell and Banstead Athletic are both enduring miserable times in the Ryman Leagues.

Banstead's form in Ryman Two has swung up and down all season and on Tuesday night they fell to their latest defeat at Merland Rise. Losing 4-0 to Hungerford Town, the result followed Saturday's disappointment when they crashed to a 1-2 home defeat at the hands of Chalfont St Peter.

Despite Keith Ward giving them an early 14 minute lead, Banstead were never in the match and always looked vunerable to Chalfont's counter-attacking game.

Epsom and Ewell's season in Ryman Three is turning out to be just as gloomy as their Merland Rise landlords.

Last Saturday a late Clapton strike sent them crashing to a 1-0 defeat and despite their recent victory over Flackwell Heath, they slipped up again at the weekend, losing 2-1 at Hertford Town. For the second consecutive season Epsom squandered a lead at Hertford to hand the promotion hunters victory. After bossing much of the game and going ahead through a Steve Smith header on 44 minutes, Epsom fell apart during a disastrous last quarter of an hour.

Denied a second half penalty, Epsom allowed Hertford to equalise on 77 minutes and handed them a get out of jail card on 90 minutes when poor defending saw Dave Hyatt well beaten.

Banstead are away to Bracknell Town on Saturday while Epsom welcome Kingsbury Town to Merland Rise.
