THAMES Valley Harriers' Men stormed to a Team Victory in the one-circuit Hillingdon five-mile road race around Ickenham and Ruislip on Sunday.

Dean Clark was the leading performer placed 25th over the first three miles of the undulating course with Steve Norris a further 10 places back.

Ian Johnston, after his usual initial cautious race start eased his way through from the late 20s in the second half of the race, catching first Steve at three and a half miles, and then Dean, just after the four mile marker, to be the first Valley man home in 25 minutes 32 seconds for 15th place, and to become the Mens' Club five mile Champion.

Clark, however, did not give up on the chase, and fought hard over the last mile to be 17th, having slipped just 10 seconds off Johnstone's time, to become the club's second scorer and take silver in the championship.

A semi-satisfied Clark said: "I made a mistake of going off too fast in the first 100 metres because of the cars parked on the right hand side as I didn't want to get boxed in, which made my momentum too fast, once you've gone off, you don't slow down."
