Bromley were rather fortunate to take a point from their visit to Whyteleafe between two sides in the lower reaches of the Ryman League Division One last Saturday.

The home side dominated most of the game and Bromley owed their point to the great goalkeeping of Danny Harwood and Kirk Watts' second-half goal.

Harwood was the busiest player on the field, producing a string of excellent saves to keep Whyteleafe's lively attack at bay.

Harwood denied Leon Dillon on two occasions and Denva McKenzie in the first half-hour, as Bromley found it hard to make inroads into the home defence.

However, Bromley nearly took the lead against the run of play eight minutes before the break but Carl Bartley just failed to connect with Grant Watts' clever through ball.

Then, in stoppage time at the end of the half, Mark Harris kneed the ball over the bar from just three yards following Michael Harney's corner.

Harwood was at his best in the 49th minute when he somehow changed direction in mid-air to tip Scott Thornton's rasping volley over the bar. And three minutes later he did likewise to stop Lee Ormack's wickedly dipping cross.

Then, against the run of play, Bromley snatched the lead in the 63rd minute when Michael Tester's through pass found Grant Watts, who slipped the ball inside for brother Kirk to run on and drive firmly under Whyteleafe keeper Danny Rose.

But their joy was short-lived as Whyteleafe levelled just six minutes later when Danny Arkwright's header from a corner was blocked on the line, but the ball ran kindly to Daniel Nwanze to stab the loose ball home.

The match then ended on a sour note when Kirk Watts and Whyteleafe's Gary Odlum were sent off for violent conduct in the closing moments.

This Saturday, Bromley entertain Windsor & Eton at Hayes Lane, kick-off 3pm.
