Orpington Regional Badminton Association is entering teams in the under-15 and 19 sections at the forthcoming Kent Junior Inter-Regional Championships and is seeking players to represent the borough.

In last year's torunament, local teams finished runners-up in the under-15 event, while the under-19 squad came third.

This year's championship takes place at the Kent University Sports Hall, in Canterbury, on Sunday, April 21, and the Orpington Association will be holding a trial session this Sunday from 10am until 1pm at the Parklangley Badminton Club.

All players in he Bromley borough are invited to come along, but to be eligible players must have been under 15 or 19 on January 1, 2002.

Recently, the Orpington Badminton Associaiton held its first family tournament at Park Langley.

The event introdcued less experienced players to competitive play by partnering them with parents, relatives or older friends. Young players had to be under 16, while the elders had to be over 30.

Four groups of six pairs competed on four courts in the new badminton hall and the results were as follows:

Mixed, 10-12 years: Charlotte Rolf and father Ray; Mixed, 12-13 years: Larry Talamage and mother Debbie; Men's, 12-13 years: Christopher Hart and father Terry; Mixed, 14-16: Robert Dowse and father Peter.

Following the success of this iniital event, another is being planned for the near future.
