Children from Shenley proudly unveiled the latest improvements at their school recently.

A project to make Shenley Primary School more of a fun place to be, which was started at the turn of the Millennium, has proved to be so popular among pupils it is still running now.

Parents, teachers, governors and pupils have all helped to build a new pond, a climbing wall and a playhouse for the school's Early Years Unit.

Infant teacher Karin Large said: "The pond was the childrens' idea in the first place. It took about nine months to build. One of the parents provided us with a mechanical digger, and another one donated a carpet to line it with, so it was a team effort.

"They have totally changed the atmosphere of the school. It is so much better now," she added.

A competition to come up with the best name for the pond was won by seven-year-old Rebecca Gwyn Evans, whose suggestion of Reflections Pond was used.

As part of Project 2000 a committee has been set up, containing two schoolchildren, who tell the teachers, parents and governors on the committee what improvements they would like to see carried out.

Each child has been given their own box of toys, and over the summer a new planter will be built for each class, so they can work together to put in and maintain plants.
