Firefighters extinguished a blaze in a chimney in a pub in Elstree on Thursday.
The fire, at the Waggon and Horses pub in Watling Street, happened when residue in the chimney caught fire at around 6.45pm.
Leading firefighter, Mark Gifford, of Borehamwood Fire Station, said: "All the residue up the chimney caught fire it was quite smoky but it was not a bad fire."
A stirrup pump was used to pump water up a hose and into the chimney.
