Well-known local wrestler Dick Conlan has died at the age of 67, from prostate cancer.

Dick, from New Eltham, wrestled on TV as part of the Dale and Martin Wrestling promotions in the 70s, until it finished in the 80s.

He first becme involved with wrestling while he was at school when taught by the headmaster.

Later he became a cadet in the merchant navy and went on to become a professional wrestler and then a school-teacher.

But he continued wrestling and was part of the Artful Dodger tag-team with Chris Bailey, which toured Europe and was featured regularly on national TV in the 1970s and 80s.

After Dick retired from teaching, he took charge of the Inland Waterways Authority, based in Grosvener Road, Westminister, and carried on wrestling up to the age of 55.
