A YOUNGSTER has been seeing the fun side of a mysterious lake the size of Wembley Stadium's football pitch, which surfaced four weeks ago in West Wickham.

Oak Lodge Primary School pupil Kieran Hogan, eight, got out his dingy to go for a sail on the oversized pond at Sparrows' Den.

The lake has submerged rugby pitches at the Old Beccehamians Rugby Football Club in a foot of water. Council experts blame the extremely rare occurrence on the massive rains which fell on the area during the winter. Kieran said: “This is a great place to row.

“It is the biggest stretch of water I have been on.

“All the rugby players were calling out from the club house for me to give them their pitch back.”

He added: “We think it should be renamed as Ducks' Den now.”
