Gravesend boxer Harry Dhami is back in training as he preprares for his first mandatory defence of his British Welterweight title, which is expected to be next month, writes Kevin Impey.
Dhami, who beat Spencer McCracken at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre last November when making a voluntary defence of his title, said: “I have just started light training and will be stepping up the work considerably over the next few weeks.
“At this moment, I do not know who the British Boxing Board of Control will nominate as my opponent, but it could be Nottingham's Jawaid Khalig, who won the vacant Commonwealth title on the same bill as when I defeated McCracken.”
Meanwhile, the Dhami family is celebrating the first success in the amateur ring of Harry's brother, Suki.
The 22-year-old light-welterweight, a member of Swanley Boxing Club, won his debut bout held at Rutherford College at the University of Kent campus in Canterbury.
Harry said: “Suki was very impressive in his three-round fight and he obviously benfitted from training alongside his brother!”
