A MUM has appealed for help after her son was racially abused and beaten in Bexleyheath.

The family, which does not want to be named, wants witnesses to the attack on February 4 to come forward.

Michael, a 19-year-old black apprentice engineer, was walking with two friends, a boy and a girl, in Bexleyheath Broadway after a night out in Yatess. The two boys intended to walk the girl home and then catch a cab from there.

As they passed the Frontier Post at about 11.30pm, Michael spotted another friend and stopped to talk to him, while the other two walked on.

Several men were standing outside the Frontier Post and two of them began shouting racial abuse at Michael.

The two men, in their mid-20s, came over to him. One punched him in the face and then they kicked him as he lay on the ground, splitting open his chin.

His friends realised what was happening and ran back, dragging him to safety as he lost consciousness. They phoned Michaels mother who drove to Bexleyheath to pick them up and took her son to hospital to have his wounds stitched.

Unfortunately, the incident also caused a flare-up in Michaels sickle cell anaemia and he was not able to go back to work on Monday.

Michaels mother said a number of people who were leaving the Frontier Post must have witnessed the attack.

The police also have CCTV footage. After Michael was dragged away, a bigger fight broke out and police were called.
