Police are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old Norbury girl was found dead in her family's home last week.

Detectives are treating the death of Cassandra McDermott suspiciously after callers to the Granville Gardens house found her dead just after 8pm on Friday, October 26.

A post mortem at a Thornton Road mortuary revealed on Saturday that she had choked on her own vomit.

A neighbour of Cassandra's, who did not want to be identified, told the Guardian: "We are all completely shocked. I got back late on Friday night to see the area cordoned off and an officer told me that the girl had died.

"We didn't really know her but she was very pleasant when we did speak to her. She always had a smile on her face."

It is believed that Cassandra may have been visiting her family on that day but police say that no relatives were in the house at the time of her death.

A 22-year-old Croydon man was arrested at his home early on Saturday morning in connection with the inquiry and has been bailed to return to a south London police station in December.
