VANDALS might have bitten off more than they could chew on Sunday, when they poured battery acid on a car belonging to Watford boxer Ojay Abrahams.

Mr Abrahams, Watford's first professional boxing champion in nearly 50 years, is hopping mad and has put up a reward of £1,000.

The cash will go to anybody who gives information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprit.

The boxer's Toyota MR2, worth more than £20,000 new, was one of four cars targeted in Elm Court, Watford, between 10pm on Sunday and 2.15am on Monday morning.

The car was left with damaged paintwork after the liquid was splashed on the bonnet.

The British Masters Light Middleweight champion was letting his hair down at Destiny nightclub in High Street when the incident happened.

Now he wants to get the person responsible into the ring.

He said: "I have put a lot into my career and the rewards are high. Most people work hard to get the best things out of life, but there are a few envious people out there.

"When I find the person who did this, I am going to let my son Cassius deal with them and then go to the British Boxing Board of Control to sanction a match between myself and the person or persons who did this."

Mr Abrahams said while he sympathised with the other people whose cars were damaged, he took some comfort from the fact the vandals were not targeting him personally.

The boxer thinks it was lucky he did not catch the culprit in the act lucky for both of them.

He added: "If I had seen them when I came out of the nightclub, I would probably be doing time by now.

"At the time, I was ready to do what they do with chickens and rip off his head."

Anybody with any information about the incident can telephone the Watford crime desk on 01923 472000.
