Proposed golf complex would boost tourism
JULIA HORTONDecember 08 2008

Plans for a new multi-million-pound hotel and golf complex in Scotland to rival Gleneagles look set to be given the go-ahead today.

The £50m development at Rutherford Castle Golf Club in West Linton, Peeblesshire, has already been recommended for approval.

Speaking before Scottish Borders Council rules on the application this morning, the authority's planning committee chairman described the project as a "very significant potential investment".

The complex, including retail outlets, a conference centre, leisure facilities and a swimming pool, is expected to act as a key gateway site between the region and Edinburgh, boosting tourism in the south of Scotland and creating up to 300 jobs.
