DAMIEN HENDERSONJune 16 2008

DUNDEE Rep scooped four of Scotland's theatre critic awards last night for its production of Ibsen's Peer Gynt.

Of the 10 gongs awarded yesterday, the production won the prestigious best production award, along with the male best performance - given jointly to Keith Fleming and Gerry Mulgrew; best director for Dominic Hill and best design for Naomi Wilkinson. James Brining, artistic director and chief executive of Dundee Rep, said he was "absolutely delighted" that the company's work had been recognised.

"We have a very dedicated and talented staff at the Rep and these awards are a measure of just how strong and committed the team is," he said. The Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland ceremony at Glasgow's Oran Mor also saw Alan Wilkins pick up the best new play award for Carthage Must Be Destroyed - his second play - which was commissioned and staged by the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
