New body to champion Glasgow architecture to be ‘preserved’
ALISON CHIESAMay 14 2008

A NEW organisation which will champion the unique architectural heritage of Glasgow was launched last night.

Glasgow City Heritage Trust has been established to promote the appreciation and conservation of the city's historic built environment.

The trust offers support and advice to owners of historic buildings on "sympathetically" repairing their properties.

With its focus on external features such as windows, doors, railings, roofs, structural repairs and stonework, the trust offers grants to fund up to 50% of the total repair cost to building fabrics.

Director Torsten Haak said: "The trust offers an exciting opportunity to invest in Glasgow's outstanding architectural heritage and support residents in showing their civic pride by improving their built environment to the highest standards of workmanship.".

Among the many buildings the trust will champion for their architectural merit include The Egyptian Halls by Alexander Greek Thomson and Trinity College by Charles Wilson.
