A couple told yesterday how they remortgaged the family home to fulfil their dream of making a horror film - and the movie is now set to go on nationwide release.

Arabella Croft and Kieran Parker, both 37, gambled their Glasgow house and borrowed from friends and family to raise £300,000.

But the bet paid off. The film Outpost attracted major investors and has already proved a hit in the US, where it has come out on DVD ahead of its UK release.

The pair, who have worked in the industry since their early-20s, remortgaged their home in the West End, where they live with their 11-month-old son Isaac and three-year-old daughter Holly, in a bid to kickstart the project.

The movie's £1.2m budget was raised with the help of a film sales company.

The couple persuaded rising star Ray Stevenson, who starred in the recent series Rome, to take the lead role. And they eventually won a prestigious deal with Sony Pictures to distribute the film.

The movie is set in Eastern Europe but was filmed at a Dalbeattie munitions factory, in a forest in Dumfriesshire, and at the Glasgow Film City.
