The skeletal remains of a man found in a tent in a forest have been identified as a young Scottish hillwalker who went missing three years ago.

Police confirmed yesterday that the decomposed body found by forestry workers in Auch Forest, near Bridge of Orchy in Argyll, is that of Nicholas Randall.

Mr Randall was suffering from depression and had been diagnosed with dyslexia shortly before he disappeared from his parents' Edinburgh home in April 2005, aged 31. His Audi A2 was found at Glen Nevis waterfall car park, near Fort William, in July of the same year but despite reported sightings he was never located.

Investigating officers said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of his body earlier this month near the West Highland Way walking route.

The town planner was working in Aberdeen but moved back to the capital to stay with his parents Bill and Esme Randall after being signed off with stress. He left on April 25, 2005, without any explanation or farewell.
