A Scottish-based scientist who has helped identify dozens of bodies through facial reconstruction in criminal cases across Europe has been commissioned by a German museum to recreate the face of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
Dr Caroline Wilkinson, head of Scotland's first forensic art unit, set up at Dundee University in 2005, has used state-of-the-art technology to recreate the head.
Dr Wilkinson, 42, was approached to do the work last year by the Bach Museum of Eisenach in Leipzig. The acryllic bust will be the centre of an eight-month exhibition which opens on March 21, the 323rd anniversary of his birth.
The bust was completed at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design at Dundee University where forensic and archaeological facial reconstruction work is carried out.
Dr Wilkinson, one of the few UK scientists involved in facial reconstruction, has worked on more than 30 criminal cases in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Switzerland and several archaeological investigations including reconstructions of St Nicholas and a royal mummy from Egypt.
