A POLICE inquiry is under way into the death of a Scot in Egypt. Police say they are treating the case as suspicious.

Ewen Walker, 33, was found dead after spending an evening out drinking with friends in Cairo, where he had been living for about a year.

Mr Walker, a former pupil of Dyce Academy in Aberdeen, had been working for a deep sea trawling company.

Mr Walker's father, also Ewen, flew to Cairo at the end of last week and is understood to be making arrangements for his body to be returned to Scotland.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "The death is being treated as suspicious and the local police have begun their investigations.

"We are providing consular assistance to the next of kin."

Mr Walker's sister, Alison, said the family believed that the death was being treated as suspicious because of his age and because of the involvement of alcohol in a Muslim country.
